The
Muddy Past...
Once upon a time three women gathered around an agility ring and said "wouldn't
it be fun to have an agility club in Kitsap County". That was July of 2002. The
women were Shelley Malan who recently moved from New York where she had been
doing agility since 1996 with her Australian Shepherds and Dalmatian and who
was starting an agility training business; Gail Fleming who had recently
started doing agility with her Vizsla and she wanted to focus more of her free
time on the sport; and Ginny Partridge who had started doing agility with her
Golden Retriever and she believed in and supported the sport of agility. The
first official club meeting took place in October, 2002. By February of 2003,
bylaws were written, a club name was chosen, and officers were elected. Our
club started out with 40 members. We combined fun agility activities with
business and social gatherings. By winter of 2004, the club joined NADAC as an
affiliate club. Our first NADAC/ASCA/ AMBOR sanctioned trial
was hosted in
Port Gamble in the summer of 2004.
When
do we meet?
Generally we meet once a month. This can take the form of participating in a
club fun run, or having an educational meeting. We have had social potlucks,
holiday parties and equipment building events. We also periodically host
agility trials and fun matches. We try to limit the number of business meetings
that the entire membership is to attend. Each January we have our annual
meeting.
Please also refer to our
EVENTS
page.
Where
do we meet?
North Kitsap seems to be the most central location for the membership. We tend
to meet where the agility equipment is. This allows us to have some play time
with our dogs. If you are interested in joining us, please
CONTACT US for the
next meeting time and date.
